Pseudo-English, a Short Description
Pseudo-English is an audio-illusory language. (copyright © Gokce Kasikci 2006) It is created to express alienation through language. It is based on English language grammar and sound structures. While it attempts to sound as familiar as English, comprehension does not take place.
“My intension was to create a language that would play with the ideas of communication, empowerment, and knowledge. ”
After Pseudo- English was developed, I used it extensively in my work to deal with the issues of identity, communication, and alienation. Three groups of work fall into this category on this website: The Entry, which was an installation/performance art show, PiPodium, which had mechanical mobile parts carrying the Pseudo-English recordings, and Sound Objects, which play the recorded passages when a proximity sensor is triggered.
